Who? I'll Tell You Who.

As the last spotlight for this week I'm going to talk about one of the most influential bass players in history. His name is John Entwistle. He's the Who's bass player. What makes John the standing-out bassist is that he tried to stick out more. He has his own bass solo in the song My Generation. You don't hear many bass solos everyday.
Here I have a crazy video of the Who performing their song My Generation with the bass solo.
Sorry for the late post.

Roger Taylor: My Favorite Drummer

Roger Taylor is the drummer for Queen. He has also written many of Queen's songs such as, Radio Ga Ga, A Kind of Magic, I'm In Love With My Car, Fun It and many more. What separates this drummer from other drummers is that he wrote and even sang many of Queen's songs. He did a lot of back-up vocals during concerts. He also sings one of his songs that he wrote. It's called, I'm In Love With My Car. This song is featured in Queen's most famous album, A Night At The Opera which came out in 1975. This album also featured Queen's most famous and incredible song, Bohemian Rhapsody. In this song, during the operatic part, Roger sings the high "Galileo!"s while Brian May and Freddie sing the other lower parts.
Anyway, I have a live version of Roger's song.

Jethro Tull: How to Rock With a Flute

Ian Anderson is one of the best flute players in the history of Rock n' Roll ever.

In 1962, Ian Anderson's band, Jethro Tull was created. At first, the band had a different name that was eventually changed to Jethro Tull. The name came from a 1800's agriculturalist named Jethro Tull. (Don't ask me why they named the band after him.) Ian Anderson has written most of the songs in all of the albums including Aqualung and Locomotive Breath. Below you can see a live performance of Locomotive Breath featuring a flute solo by Ian Anderson himself.
He's so sweaty!

What All Guitarists Have In Common

Here it is. The post I warned you about on Sunday's post. All I can say is this: You've been warned.
Thing is what do all guitarists have in common? I mean ALL of them. I can't tell you in words though.
I will have to tell you in picture form. They say pictures are worth a thousand words, so I just saved you a lot of reading! Anyway, here is what all guitarists have in common:

See, even Brian May himself thinks F chords are stupid. I agree with him being a guitarist myself. I bet Eddie Van Halen will agree too.

P.S.
For all of those experienced guitarists out there who are thinking "That is not an F chord in that picture", I must say I don't really care. It's just a funny picture so don't freak out that he is not playing an F chord.

Awesome Drummer- Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin was a very famous and popular band, but Jimmy Page and Robert Plant did most of the entertaining (Especially Robert Plant) while the bassist and the drummer just did their music in the background. Now John Bonham is a great drummer and when his song, "Moby Dick" comes on, it's his time to shine. He is truly a great drummer. I have this video of only part of the song Moby Dick, but it is enough to get a good idea of how the song sounds. If you want to see the whole version of this song (Which is over 14 minutes long live) you can find it on youtube.

Most of the time in concerts the drummer will go of on a long drum solo which usually lasts around 10-15 minutes (sometimes more) so that the other band members can get a break. That is why Robert Plant and everyone else went backstage during the song. In this video, John is doing an awesome job drumming; the cameraman though, not so much.

John Bonham's symbol.

I always recognize John in his pictures by his mustache.

Bassist Spotlight

Today my post is about the bassist for the famous band Queen, John Deacon. He was also the youngest member of the band. He wrote many of Queen's songs including the famous song "Another One Bites The Dust". This song featured the bass as the primary instrument throughout the song.
John never really did much to stand out at all, but without him Queen would be a very different band. I mean songs like "Another One Bites the Dust" and "You're My Best Friend" would never exist.

Spotlight

All this week, I'm going to be focusing on the band members in many famous bands that weren't put in the spotlight. This week I'm not going to talk about guitarists or singers.

I'm going to put more focus on the bass players and the drummers or possibly even the rhythm guitar players and every other instrument player that put in a lot towards a band that wasn't put in the spotlight.

P.S.-
At first this post had a lot of words so I got rid of some, but then I added a lot of pictures. I hope you keep reading this week to see some great videos and learn some cool stuff. Enjoy!

Guitar of The Week

This week's guitar of the week is Brian May's Red Special. He made it himself out of old firewood. Even today Brian still uses that guitar. Brian May was in the popular band "Queen" with many great hits. one of their most popular songs which is used in many sports and such was written by Brian himself. This song is "We Will Rock You" and its common partnering song "We Are The Champions".

Brian's guitar was so iconic and famous that Brian May now has his own line of signature guitar lookalikes of his own Red Special.
It comes in many different styles based off of his own guitar that are VERY expensive. They are not something I would suggest for someone buying for the first time. On the right you can see some of the guitars
Also be sure to check out the website: http://www.brianmayguitars.co.uk/

Coming up soon: What all guitarists have in common (besides they all have guitars)

Heart Rocks!

Today I am going to put a little focus on the amazingly talented sisters of the band "Heart". Ann and Nancy Wilson are two sisters who formed the band in the 70's. They both know how to play guitar and sing, but Ann does most of the singing while Nancy does more guitar playing. These two sisters were influenced by the Beatles to make their band.

Ann Wilson is the one in the picture on the right.

Nancy Wilson is in the picture below.
Here I have a live concert of Heart performing one of their hits, Crazy On You. This is my favorite of the  live versions of this song. This song appeared on the album Dreamboat Annie in 1976. The album also included other songs like Magic Man and Dreamboat Annie.

A cool way to rock

I saw a special on my TV recently showing a live concert of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They are not classic rock, but they play classical music with rock sound. Thus giving you classical rock, so close enough. Here I also have a video. It's not very high quality, but it should give you a good idea of how it sounded and looked.

Also be sure to check out their website:

Happy Friday everyone!

Taking a little Journey

I'm going to go into Journey a little bit like I did with Black Sabbath. No journey puns. Just some music etc. Also, I have no captioned pictures of Journey. Oh well.
This is a great song by Journey and also one of their very popular songs. It's still a great song though. My favorite part is when the guitar comes in after the first verse with that cool little lick. It reminds me of those rain stick that make rain sounds when you tip them over. In this case it sounds more like a guitar(and it is)

Iron Man

Today I am featuring one of Black Sabbath's songs, Iron Man. It came out in 1970 in their Paranoid album which also featured another great song of their's, War Pigs and Paranoid. Iron Man is one of my favorite songs by that band. Make sure you play it real loud like it's meant to. Enjoy!

Black Sabbath

I've had enough Led Zeppelin this week. I'm going to
do some stuff about Black Sabbath this week instead.
Here we have my captioned picture of Black Sabbath:

It looks like Tony Lommi is quite annoyed by Ozzy. Oh well.

Led Zeppelin Pictures!

I have been having a lot of fun lately adding captions to some of my favorite band's pictures. So, since I've been talking about Led Zeppelin lately, I'm putting up my Led Zep picture first. Here it is:

Personally, I don't want to take pictures of myself tuning my guitar. (I actually do have a guitar though.)
Also, for those of you who didn't notice, Jimmy Page was the one I imagined saying that.

Led Zeppelin

I can't stop thinking about Led Zeppelin today. So, I'm posting up this video of part of a Led Zeppelin Concert featuring one of their great hits: Black Dog. Actually, the name "Black Dog" was inspired by a black labrador retriever. This song appeared on the album Led Zeppelin IV in 1971

Sunday!

Happy Sunday all you people out there!
Because it's Sunday, I'm posting my Sunday song by one of my favorite bands: Queen.
Enjoy!

The Start.

This is the first post for my new blog dedicated to the best of classic Rock and Roll. There  will be more to come.
